Welcome to the Geoviu Blog. Even though Geoviu is planned to launch in the summer of 2009, we would like to use this blog right away to give you further details on the development of this new platform. We will also post articles on our view of mapping technologies and the market for maps on the Internet.
A word on Geoviu: our goal is to develop an interactive map that will give insight on phenomenas such as global warming, economic crises, political transformations, diplomatic relationships, environmental hazards, but also relief programs, humanitarian actions and fair trade networks. Wheras most online maps currently focus on local data (locating streets, subway stations, restaurants, people…), we try to map global phenomenas that have an impact on the world we live in. Data will be gathered from around the web, but more importantly from each and every one of you once a community of users will have formed around the Geoviu platform.
We would also love to see this platform grow and evolve in ways that we had not originally intended. More specifically, we hope this project will develop a gobal awareness of the threats on our planet and the positive actions that are taken every day to improve our world.
Geoviu is a website currently in beta. Our goal is to provide an innovative way of skimming through news articles and acquiring a general feel of what is happening around the world. We allow users to view information & news on an interactive map: articles are organized in categories and switching from global to local events is made easy with our map zoom levels. Stay tuned for future developments!
